Horror movie
A horror movie or film are movies meant to cause fear, horror and terror to viewers. They are sometimes referred to as slasher films, which involves a psychopathic killer murdering it's victims. They frequently have graphic violence, resulting in criticisms. France's Le Manoir du diable (The House of the Devil in English) of 1896 is credited as the first horror movie. Alfred Hitchcock is perhaps known as the most respected directer of horror and psychological thriller films.
Some of the most well known horror films include Frankenstein (1931), Psycho (1960), The Birds (1963), The Exorcist (1973), The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Jaws (1975), Halloween (1978), Friday the 13th (1980), The Shining (1980), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), Scream (1996), and The Sixth Sense (1999).
