The beats are the pulses themselves; it's not a synonym for tempo. --Ed Poor Talk 20:47, 3 September 2008 (EDT)

Hmmm well, the beat is kept up by the tempo? Maybe something like that? ClarkeD 20:48, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
Changed the "or" to "and" as the beat is the pulse and the speed of said pulses. Like if you were tapping your feet to the beat it would be tapping the pulse and at the speed of the pulse. if ya see what I am saying. Feel free to revert/alter though. ClarkeD 20:57, 3 September 2008 (EDT)

Blues beat

I know I'm the "jazz" man, but in a lot of blues songs the 6/8 beat is really more of a 2/4, not 3/4. 3/4 doesn't actually mesh as well, since you change the beat emphasis, whereas with 2/4 you are only changing the subdivision, not the emphasis. (Off to find some references, and maybe listen to some good music) HelpJazz 13:16, 10 September 2008 (EDT)
