Free verse

Free verse is a form of poetry that is not written using strict rules for meter or rhyming, but still employs poetic devices so that readers will recognize it as poetic. Free verse frequently makes use of alliteration, consonance, assonance, onomatopoeia, simile, and metaphor.

Robert Frost said, "I'd sooner write free verse as play tennis with the net down." [1]
