Grave of the Fireflies is an animated film directed by Isao Takahata, a colleague of Hayao Miyazaki. The film somberly depicts the aftermath of the US firebombing of Kobe, Japan by focusing on the plight of a homeless teenager and his little sister. Although its pacing is similar to My Neighbor Totoro, its plot is much more serious. Roger Ebert called it "the most realistic animated film I've ever seen". [1]
