Consensus != unanimity. Sometimes people "go along to get along" or simply because they don't have a serious objection. For example, they may "consent" to what they regard as a second-rate plan.

On the other hand, an 85% supermajority is not necessarily "consensus", and we must consider consensus in terms of liberal-conservative disagreements on issues like global warming. Is there such a thing as scientific consensus, or does a theory require some sort of proof? --Ed Poor Talk 09:41, 9 August 2008 (EDT)
