Sumerian is a term used to describe a person or object from the ancient kingdom of Sumeria. Unlike its sister language Akkadian, which was written in cuneiform, Sumerian was written in hieroglyhics. Historians believe that it is related to the Basque language of northern Spain and possibly Georgian.
