Chinese characters (Traditional Chinese, Kanji, and Hanja: 漢字; Simplified Chinese: 汉字; Hanyu Pinyin: Hànzì) are semanto-phonetic glyphs that are used in written Chinese. They are commonly used in Japanese, alongside with the Japanese syllabaries hiragana and katakana. However in Korean, Hangul is used and Chinese characters are only used for names and to distinguish ambiguous homonyms.
