Philip Pullman

Philip Pullman is the atheist author of His Dark Materials, a trilogy of fantasy novels for young adults where the ultimate victory is killing the Judeo-Christian God. He has written several other books which have generated no controversy. A movie based off The Golden Compass, the first in His Dark Materials, was released in 2007.
Critics brand his books subversively anti-religious. Defenders point to the facts that they are only stories and contain moral themes that correlate with the ones religions promote.
