Constituent country is a term whose precise meaning depends on the context in which it is used. Theoretically it is a country which is part of a larger entity, but that larger entity can be a country proper. The reason for the obscurity is the undecidability whether the term country necessarily connotes political independence or not.

United Kingdom

The constituent countries of the United Kingdom are:[4]

  • England
  • Northern Ireland
  • Scotland
  • Wales

When talked about them collectively but as separate entities, they are often referred to as the Home Nations, especially when referring to sporting events where they have their own teams

Netherlands

The constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands are:

  • The Netherlands
  • Netherlands Antilles
  • Aruba

Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Croatia
  • Macedonia
  • Montenegro
  • Serbia (Containing the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, Autonomous Province of Vojvodina
  • Slovenia

The country was established on January 31, 1946. Today they are all independent countries. Recently even Kosovo, formerly an autonomous province of Serbia, declared its independence.
