Dörrberg in 1912

Dörrberg im Geratal[1] is a town in Thüringer Wald[2], Germany that was the location of the death of the notable neurologist Carl Wernicke in 1905 following a tragic bicycle accident[3] when he impaled himself on a brake lever following a collision with a tram[4].

Dörrberg lies in the former DDR (East Germany) [5]. The climate is typical Central European with warm summers and cold winters.[6]. The region is heavily forested and is a popular holiday destination for walkers and naturists[7].

The town boasts a fine castle and many half-timbered buildings. It is noted for its Dörrberger Diet Pils, a low carbohydrate lager-type beer.
