Britney Spears (born December 2, 1981) is an American pop singer who catapulted to fame with her 1999 hit song "...Baby One More Time". By singing about adolescent sexuality while professing to be a virgin, Spears became a magnet of popular attention.

Her version of "morality" was to delay premarital sex until age 21, when she had an affair with Justin Timberlake. After that, she plunged headlong into concert and recording industry, exploiting her "pop tart" persona with stunts such as a televised lesbian kiss with her mentor Madonna Ciccone and a short-lived Las Vegas marriage.

She gave birth to a child but agreed to joint custody with the child's father while pursuing the single life. Driving while intoxicated with alcohol and stronger drugs, her legal troubles mounted. Early in January 2008, she was carried from her house in a stretcher.
