Marie Antoinette was born November 2, 1755 in Austria and died October 16, 1793. She was queen of King Louis XVI of France. She was an enemy of reform, and helped to provoke the popular unrest that led to the French Revolution and to the overthrow of the monarchy in August 1792. She was executed by guillotine in 1793. She is famous for the saying "Then, let them eat cakes", although it is questioned if she ever uttered those words.
