Hypotension is abnormally low blood pressure. It is not a disease. Generally, low blood pressure is healthier than high blood pressure. However, blood pressure is generally considered to low if it falls below 90/50. Hypotension is not to be confused with its opposite, hypertension, abnormally high blood pressure. Hypotension is almost never serious. However, severe hypotension is life threatening because it prevents blood from flowing to vital organs in the body such as the heart. Hypotension can occur as a result of excessive consumption of alcohol. Warning signs for hypotension include dizziness, fatigue, passing out, nausea, and headache.
