Albert Gore was the Vice President of the United States (1993-2001). He also ran for the Presidency in 2000, losing narrowly to George W. Bush thanks to Bush's brother fixing the Florida result for him. He now is famous for giving lectures promoting a response at the civic and governmental levels to global warming. Some of these lectures were turned into the documentary An Inconvenient Truth. He apparently will not be running for President in 2008.
