A civil union is a legally recognized form of same sex marriage, currently performed in the states of Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont, as well as some foreign countries. Critics say that there should be no 'separate but equal' status when it comes to marriage. Opponents of same sex marriage say there is no difference.[1]
