Vignette

Vignette (French:vignette, Spanish:viñeta), this word comes from old French, a diminutive of vigne, "vineyard". It originally was referred to a decorative border in a book in the form of vine tendrils. At present in graphic design, it is a decorative design or small illustration or picture, usually used in books to separate sections or chapters; also in photography, a photograph whose edges shade off gradually.
It was present in Gothic architecture.
