Sorry to dirty up your freshly-archived page, but...

... would you please take a look at Hedge fund? Not sure exactly what's going on with it, and you were the originator of the article. Regards, Aziraphale 12:03, 17 July 2007 (EDT) <-hedge fun!

Thanks very much. I just fixed it. Godspeed.--Aschlafly 12:12, 17 July 2007 (EDT)
Hello again. Would you please categorize the article Examples of Bias in Wikipedia? As the protecting sysop I thought you'd like to be included in any change to the article. I suggest the category "wiki" but clearly you've got the prerogative to choose another. Thanks! Aziraphale 16:40, 18 July 2007 (EDT)
Done. Thanks for the suggestion and for your superb efforts.--Aschlafly 16:44, 18 July 2007 (EDT)
Thanks, and my pleasure. Aziraphale 16:51, 18 July 2007 (EDT)

Competition

Just wondering if the judges have decided which team won, and when the results will be posted? Thanks! DeborahB. 16:33, 17 July 2007 (EDT)

  • Hi Debby! I was chatting with Geo just a while ago, and he told me it would be a day or two, FYI. ;-) --Sysop-TK /MyTalk 18:24, 17 July 2007 (EDT)

I think Conservapedia won, but that didn't stop me from making a last day surge for my team. ;-) Learn together 02:20, 18 July 2007 (EDT)

Recent Edits

I've made several new edits since your 3 day block on me expired, including a few new articles. Let me know what you think. (And if you have the chance, elaborate a bit on why I was blocked for 3 days because I'm not 100% clear on that point.) Danke.--Porthos 09:50, 18 July 2007 (EDT)

Your recent edits seem OK, though not particularly enlightening. Hopefully you'll use this site to learn and improve.
The reason for your block was obvious, and I find it troubling that you're not "100% clear on that point." You posted mockery on my talk page, which was rude and in violation of the Differences with Wikipedia: "I ache with anticipation to know the outcome of this felonious barbarism." Your mockery made light of vandalism, acting like it isn't wrong. Guess what: vandalism is wrong and illegal.
We're here to learn as adults and to excel in subjects as students. We're doing that and welcome everyone interested in improving themselves and others. Please do yourself and others a favor by raising the quality and quantity of your edits. Godspeed.--Aschlafly 10:19, 18 July 2007 (EDT)

Gay rights template

It was actually Hoji who originally created it, believe it or not. NewYork was only editing the grammar. DanH 00:57, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

new york didn't create it. I've seen some of his wikipedia activity, and he seems quite valuable. Bohdan 01:01, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

This looks like Hoji, not that it matters... http://www.conservapedia.com/Special:Undelete/Template:User_gay_is_not_ok DanH 01:04, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

  • Sorry! I was looking at Bush Fan, and so shocked to see who made it! :p --Sysop-TK /MyTalk 01:08, 19 July 2007 (EDT)
What template did I make? And I don't think I made the anti-gay one, TK. But then again, I could forget. looked at the history, apparently I did... --ηοξιμαχονγθαλκ 01:18, 19 July 2007 (EDT)
Don't you all remember? Someone else changed the original gay one, and then you created a new one for the person. Bohdan 01:20, 19 July 2007 (EDT)
Oh yeah, I think I did that for Deborah or Bethany. One of them was having troubles making it. --ηοξιμαχονγθαλκ 01:20, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

I think it's just as well that it's gone, though. DanH 01:22, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

There are multiple gay rights templates found in Special:Prefixindex/Template:

--Crocoite 01:26, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

As you're already aware, I didn't create it.

Profanity filter

Andy, during a recent discussion at Talk:Main Page, the discussion became difficult at one point because the proper term for male genitalia is on the spam blacklist. I would hope that you could remove a few proper anatomical terms from the blacklist. --ηοξιμαχονγθαλκ 14:54, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

OK, I removed it for now. I'm surprised, however, that enlightened persons could not find a more graceful way to make their arguments. I hope the discussion isn't going overboard there! (I haven't had time to get involved.)--Aschlafly 15:21, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

Request

Dear Andy,

I wanted to post some pics to the evolution article. Can you help right now? By the way, I hope you found that FBI related post to the talk homosexuality page helpful. Conservative 15:38, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

Just go ahead and post the pics. I have to run to the post office right now.--Aschlafly 16:00, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

help with inactive blocked member

Dear Andy,

I invited a intelligent design guy to Conservapedia and he was previously inactive. Today, he tried to log on and do some work and he said he was blocked. I did a IP check on his user name and got no results for him. Here is his user discussion page: User talk:Coal39. Can you provide some assistance? Conservative 18:47, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

Conservative, simply try to block him again, and you'll find that Karajou blocked him on June 11th. It gives the time of the block also:

2:31, 11 June 2007 Karajou (Talk | contribs | block) blocked "Coal39 (contribs)" with an expiry time of infinite

Can you check with Karajou to find out why? It doesn't seem Coal39 ever contributed anything. Karajou can undo the block, or I can.
Godspeed.--Aschlafly 19:31, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

IP Block

Hello Andy,

I was recently blocked by TK, but I appealed to him and he unblocked me. Now when I try to edit it says that my IP address (208.102.180.113) was blocked by you (block ID is #14026). TK will not remove it because you are the owner, so I'm asking you if you could please remove it (I'm currently on my neighbor's wireless, which is how I am able to post here). I think there's just some mixup somewhere, as I doubt my neighborhood has been blanket-blocked. Jazzman831 16:20, 20 July 2007 (EDT)

OK, you're unblocked. Godspeed.--Aschlafly 16:34, 20 July 2007 (EDT)

contest

have the results been released yet? Bohdan

I was just going to ask that question :) DeborahB. 22:08, 20 July 2007 (EDT)

One of our key judges has had a very serious family matter. Thanks for your patience. I eagerly await the results as you do, but it may be a few more days yet and I'm sure you'll understand. Also, I think we gave the judges more work than they expected! In Christ, Aschlafly 22:16, 20 July 2007 (EDT)

Understand fully...hopefully his family matter will be resolved, the judging will go quickly, and the results can be posted soon! DeborahB. 22:21, 20 July 2007 (EDT)
Sorry for the delay, folks. i was expecting a smooth process, but life apparently doesn't work that way. Due to some recent stumbling blocks we have been set back a couple days. we hopefully will have the Judging done no later than July 23. I am deeply appreciative of your patience in bearing with us as we deal with some major obstacles. Geo.Complain! 23:35, 20 July 2007 (EDT)
Like someone else already posted, and I repeat here, the true (and we already know this) "winner" is Conservapedia! --Sysop-TK /MyTalk 23:42, 20 July 2007 (EDT)
Is that "July 23" still correct given this? Or is one judge going to be finishing it off by himself? Philip J. Rayment 01:06, 21 July 2007 (EDT)

Hoji and Geo are carrying on, and just updatted the % checked, and the date, Philip. --Sysop-TK /MyTalk 01:39, 21 July 2007 (EDT)

Template Help

I'm trying to put this template, {{NBC Nightly News Anchors}}, into the lists of templates page but for some reason the spam filter is blocking me. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks--Tash 19:01, 21 July 2007 (EDT)

  • We will look into it, Tash, ASAP. Andy is going to be tied up for a while, so don't think he is ignoring you. --Sysop-TK /MyTalk 19:05, 21 July 2007 (EDT)
Fixed. See my talk page. (And I've changed Tash's post to not show the template here, as it put Andy's talk page into Category:NBC Nightly News Anchors.) Philip J. Rayment 19:50, 21 July 2007 (EDT)

Page Backgrond Color and Math

I'm new here, and although I'm a little hesitant to attempt significant editing as a newbie after a few quick glances at the block log, I figured I'd give this site a try. Anyway, I apologize if this issue has been discussed before, but I've noticed that the current page background color (light blue-ish) confilcts with the background for mathematical equations (white). The result is that when equations are incorporated into a page, it looks a little awkward due to the white blocks around the equations (see, for example, here). Do you know of any way to make the colors consistent? I'd be happy to try to do it myself, but I'm relatively new to wiki software, and I'm not quite sure where to start. Thanks!--Bayes 16:56, 22 July 2007 (EDT)

First of all, welcome! I have a big interest in math and like to edit those pages also.
In answer to your question, the background color is up to each editor. Simply go to Special:Preferences, click on "skin", and choose any color that you prefer. Godspeed.--Aschlafly 17:09, 22 July 2007 (EDT)
Thank you for your suggestion! I now see the option under preferences, but I was wondering if there was some way (some sort of script, or something else) that would automatically direct the background color for the equations and the background color of the page to match whenever the math tags are used. That way, all equations could be corrected at the same time, as opposed to having to go to each page with an equation on it and correct it manually.--Bayes 17:21, 22 July 2007 (EDT)
Ah, I don't know about that. We're still learning here. If the contrast bothers you, you can change your background to match the background of the equations, I think. Over time, Lord willing, we'll learn how to do what you seek also.--Aschlafly 17:27, 22 July 2007 (EDT)
Not being into maths formulae that much, and having my skin set to Monobook, I'd never noticed that problem. But I've done a little digging, and found the following:
  • As well as changing your skin, you can change in your preferences how maths formula are rendered. However, I tried various options in IE6 and the Firefox 2.0 and had no improvement. If you use a different browser, you might like to try different options to see if you fare any better.
  • The formula code is converted into .png images with white backgrounds, so the only way to change the appearance is to change the way that the .png images are created.
  • The MediaWiki help page on this says:

The PNG images are black on white (not transparent). These colors, as well as font sizes and types, are independent of browser settings or CSS. Font sizes and types will often deviate from what HTML renders. Vertical alignment with the surrounding text can also be a problem. The css selector of the images is img.tex. sina It should be pointed out that solutions to most of these shortcomings have been proposed by Maynard Handley, but have not been implemented yet.

  • Maynard Handley's solution is linked to here. Andy, according to Maynard Handley at that link, provision of transparent backgrounds to maths formulae "works and ... is easy". You should look at that link yourself.

Question about the Second Amendment Page Footnote

- Greetings!

- Is it the purpose of an encyclopaedia to use the "most often quoted" version of a historical record or to use the

- most "authoritative" version of a historical record? If original documents are available for examination and those

- documents conflict with the "most often quoted" version used by later, possibly misinformed historians should not

- the original document take precedence over the later misinterpretations in an encyclopaedia?

- Best regards, —The preceding unsigned comment was added by JohnJacobH (talk)

Not sure what you're saying here. Is this the three-comma versus one-comma debate? Godspeed.--Aschlafly 17:39, 22 July 2007 (EDT)

John Schlafly

This page has been protected, but it needs to be sorted, and the name needs to be bolded. Thanks. Jazzman831 23:27, 22 July 2007 (EDT)

  • Then post on the talk page what you want added. Thanks! --Sysop-TK /MyTalk 23:33, 22 July 2007 (EDT)
In this case the talk page is deleted and protected. Jazzman831 23:46, 22 July 2007 (EDT)
He's got a point there, TK! Jassman831, I've made those changes. Philip J. Rayment 00:22, 23 July 2007 (EDT)

Spam filter

I tried to edit the Help:Templates page but couldn't save it because it contains the word 'v a n d a l i z e' which triggers the spam filter. I completed the task by using a section link edit but it could be a problem for further edits. BrianCo 00:02, 23 July 2007 (EDT)

The American spelling of "vandalize" does not trip the spam filter. Only the non-American spelling does. Thanks and Godspeed.--Aschlafly 00:19, 23 July 2007 (EDT)
Ah, that explains Tash's problem. The offending word must be in the section being edited (which could be the whole page). I didn't realise that and didn't try it. Anyway, I've fixed it so it won't occur again there, and Andy is correct that the spam filter only triggers on the British (and Australian) spelling of the word, not the American spelling. I've already told him that I think that's discrimination! :-) Philip J. Rayment 00:28, 23 July 2007 (EDT)
Ha ha ha. It's good to have a sense of humour! Note the spelling of that last word. :-) --Aschlafly 00:33, 23 July 2007 (EDT)

Main Page

Just a quick question...obviously people have been editing the Main Page a lot today, because there's things that are different from yesterday. And yesterday it was different from the day before. But do you know why if you click history it says there was only one edit today, and the one before that 5 days before? Just thought I'd ask...you seem to do a lot on the main page. Thanks! DeborahB. 10:19, 23 July 2007 (EDT)

Answered. Thanks.--Aschlafly 10:26, 23 July 2007 (EDT)
Oh...that makes better sense. And thanks for the quick response! DeborahB. 10:27, 23 July 2007 (EDT)

Thanks, but...

Thanks, but Rob actually got him this time :) DanH 23:35, 23 July 2007 (EDT)
