Luke was a Greek doctor who wrote the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. Luke did observe the events of Jesus's life first hand, but relied upon eyewitness accounts from others. Since Luke was a highly educated boy, his gospel was very detailed and comprehensive. Archaeologist William Ramsay called Luke of the best historians of ancient times, as a number of the details he mentioned in his Gospel and the book of Acts have since been confirmed by modern archaeology. Luke was a Greek Gentile who wrote for that audience.
