Aromatherapy is primarily a Pseudoscience involving calming or healing the body through inhaling specific aromatics, typically using a diffuser. It has been used historically to induce sleep, and help (allegedly) heal various ailments. Medical evidence is largely lacking in this regard, but some consider it a viable form of alternative medicine.[1][2] Some essential oils are proven to have specific measurable effects. For example, peppermint oil has been shown to have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.[3][4] Tea tree oil also has anti-fungal properties and has show promise in treating certain parasitic infections.[5]

However, most of those benefits are seen only in direct contact, or high concentrations in aromatic form. The purported benefits of inhaling small concentrations of these compounds, however, have been difficult to scientifically establish.
