The problem solving process involves "defining the problem, generating solutions, evaluating options, and implementing a solution."[1]

Root cause analysis is a problem solving technique used to identify the fundamental reasons why an event or problem occurred. It goes beyond merely addressing the immediate symptoms to uncover the underlying causes which prevents recurrence and also improving systems.[2]
