Gospel manuscripts have been found in fragments dating back to the 1st century, and in complete biblical volumes dating back to the early 300s A.D.

"No other ancient text can compare with the New Testament when it comes to the sheer volume of manuscripts, nor when we consider how close the earliest manuscripts are to the originals."[1]

When identical copies of a text are found in different parts of the world, prior to modern transportation and communication, extrapolation back in time to a common much-earlier source is obvious.
