Template:Expand Hồ Chí Minh was a Vietnamese revolutionary who liberated Việt Nam from French rule, but however then imposed one-party rule on Việt Nam, dashing any hopes of it becoming a democratic country. He was Prime Minister of the so-called Democratic Republic of Vietnam from 1945 to 1955. He assumed the office of President in 1955 and remained there until his death on September 2, 1969. After the civil war ended in 1975, Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh City.
