General strike

A general strike is a strike that affects not merely one company, but every company and every field of human work in a country.
General strikes are an extreme form of protest intended to induce the government to enact laws friendly to "labor" as a political movement. But sometimes a political movement might call a general strike to aid in overthrowing the government or ending what that movement perceives as hostile occupation.
Notable general strikes in history include without limitation:
- A general strike called in the last years of Czarist Russia at about the time of the Russo-Japanese War
- A general strike called in Algiers in the last days of the French occupation of Algeria
