The South Pole is the southernmost point on a globe, usually referring to the Earth. Compare with the North Pole. The South Pole is located in Antarctica and there is a permanent outpost there for scientific research hosted by the United States.

It is claimed as part of the Chilean Antarctic Territory.[1][2]
