Political pendulum is remarkably predictive of changes in control in the United States as the mood of the public inevitably becomes discontent with the political party currently in power.

Only once since the end of World War II has the same party won control of the White House in three consecutive presidential elections, and during that period (1980-1992), and during that period that political party (Republican) never had control of the House of Representatives. In the next election after losing the White House, the Republican Party then won control of the House of Representatives in a landslide.
