St. Helena

An island in the South Atlantic, a British dependency, famous as the place of Napolean's exile (1815-1821) and death. The population in 1982 was extimated at 5,499. The offical language is English and the capital is Jamestown.
History
The island was discovered by the Portugese in 1502 on the feast day of Helena, mother of Constantine.
