The 1812 Overture is a musical score written in 1880 by the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky to honor how the Russian military successfully repelled Napoleon's invasion of Russia in 1812. When fully performed it includes the sound of cannons firing.
Movies and television shows have featured this music, most notably the successful V for Vendetta film in both its opening and closing scenes.
Bans on Performance
In March 2022, the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra in the United Kingdom cancelled performance of the 1912 Overture due to the Russia-Ukraine war.[1]
