Louis XIV was the King of France in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He became king at the age of four years and eight months old, but was not allowed to rule until he was older. He ruled France as an absolute monarch. He was famous for his lavish entertainments at the palace of Versailles and his frequent wars (which some believe he merely started for the glory of victory and conquest).
