Ann Coulter (b. 1961) is a bestselling author of books that present conservative views in a polemical way.

Some of her books include Godless: The Church of Liberalism, Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right, and Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism.

On March 2, 2007, Ms. Coulter joked [1] that "I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word "faggot," so I — so kind of an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards."

While the audience appreciated the comment for the joke that it was, many in the media felt the joke was insensitive and have proceeded to feature it on their front pages. Fox News, which Ms. Coulter frequently appears as a commentator, bucked the trend and as of March 4 2007, does not contain a front page link.

John Edwards took the opportunity to use the controversy as a fund raising event [2].
