Chamberlain's two-volume book, Die Grundlagen des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts (The Foundations of the Nineteenth Century[), published in 1899, became one of the many references for the pan-Germanic movement of the early 20th century, and later of the Völkisch philosophy of National Socialism.[1]

Early life

Chamberlain was born in Southsea, Hampshire, England to William Charles and Eliza Chamberlain on September 9, 1855.
