Washington crosses the Delaware to Trenton

Washington Crossing the Delaware is a painting created in 1851 by artist Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze. The painting depicts Washington's surprise attack on the forces at Trenton, New Jersey, in the Battle of Trenton.

The painting has become a point of interest for some, considering that a black slave, Prince Whipple, is depicted in the painting.
