The Kingdom of Judah was the southern kingdom of divided Israel. It consisted of those areas, primarily the tribal lands of Judah and Benjamin, that remained loyal to King Rehoboam, the son of King Solomon, when the northern tribes of Israel revolted and named as their king Jeroboam. Unlike the Northern kingdom of Israel, which rebelled against God, worshiped pagan gods, and disobeyed divine commandments, in most of its history, Judah loyally worshiped God.

As a kingdom, Judah lasted longer in history than Israel. Israel went into Assyrian captivity (2 Kings 17) because of their continued determination to not listen to God and His prophets. Well over 100 years later, for the same reason, Judah was taken in Babylonian captivity. This occurred, initially, in about 606 B.C. Finally, Jerusalem was destroyed totally in about 586 B.C.
