The Socratic method is teaching by asking questions and receiving answers in an orderly manner in order to understand the subject matter or reach a logical result. It was invented and used by Socrates in ancient Greece.
Many early Christian writers, particularly in the Augustinian tradition, adopted the Socratic method for religoius instruction, and it is still used today in some Christian colleges.
Traditional law schools use the Socratic method, particularly in the first year, to discuss cases that established important legal principles.
