Alonso Cano (Granada, 1601 – Granada, 1667), Spanish sculptor, painter, architect, and draftsman, sometimes called "the Spanish Michelangelo". He studied painting in Seville with Pacheco (Diego Velázquez was his fellow-student) and sculpture with Montañés, He worked mainly in Granada, Seville and Madrid.
Alonso Cano designed the facade of the Granada Cathedral (1667), one of the masterpieces of Spanish Baroque architecture [1]. The Immaculate Conception, (1655) is sometimes considered his painting masterpiece.
