Plutarch was a Greek historian, biographer, and priest who lived from 46 to 127 AD. He wrote Parallel Lives (Vitae Parallae), comparing great Roman and Greek men, to illustrate the similarities between the peoples in an attempt to bring their societies into greater harmony. This goal, arguably realized, was an extension of the Hellenization of the Roman Republic that occurred in the centuries prior to Plutarch's life.
