The Tongass National Forest is the United States' largest and covers most of Southeast Alaska, adjacent to Canada. It surrounds the Inside Passage.[1]

It is the focus of an intense debate between environmentalists who oppose building roads and cutting timber there, and supporters of free enterprise who oppose so much ownership of land by the government.
