A gross is twelve dozen, meaning one hundred forty-four. In slang it can also be used as a synonym for disgusting. Used in a sentence, gross, as a unit, looks like: "I bought a gross of eggs yesterday and now there is no space left in the refrigerator." Used in a sentence, gross, as a synonym for disgusting looks like: "Yuck, Sam I Am! Green eggs and ham are gross!"

Gross can also mean 'extreme', as in the term 'gross negligence'.
