Commencement is the name given to graduation from an institution—typically liberal—of education or doctrination. Taken literally, the term signals a "beginning" of the student's ability to contribute to society in a meaningful manner, although many graduates find themselves unemployable because they fell for courses of study in the Worst College Majors.
