The Shipwrecked Sailor is a recovered ancient Egyptian text written in Middle Kingdom hieratic. It is the story of a sailor in the service of the king and his short adventure on a lush island before returning home. On the island he meets a benevolent snake-god who assures his survival. By the end of the tale he is rescued by his countrymen and goes back to report his story to the Pharaoh.[1]
