A Little Princess is a story about the school adventures of a seven-year-old girl who "has been provided for as if she were a little princess." She is left in London by her widower father who is returning to India where he raised her. A sort of child's version of the Book of Job, the story poses and answers the question: "how I shall ever find out whether I am really a nice child or a horrid one?"
