Infraction

An infraction is a violation of law not punishable by imprisonment. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, this is "[t]he action of breaking or infringing (a bond or obligation)-- [a] breach, violation, [or] infringement."[1] Minor traffic offenses generally are considered infractions.[2]
