Sweet potato

The sweet potato is the tuberous root of a morning glory (Ipomoea batatas) native to the Americas. Despite being called a "potato," it is not related to the true potato, which is a member of the family Solanaceae.
The tuber can be white-skinned with a light yellow flesh, or red-skinned with a creamy orange flesh. The former type is usually called a "sweet potato," and the latter type is usually called a "yam." It is sweeter than a true potato, and is often used in making pies, sweetened with honey and brown sugar, or served mashed as a side dish.
