Quetzalcoatl is said to have departed from Mexico on a raft made of snakes. Here depicted in José Clemente Orozco's famous mural, The Epic of American Civilization, at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire.

Quetzalcoatl was the name given by the Aztecs to Thomas the Apostle when he evangelized among them shortly after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is said to have opposed their practice of human sacrifice, and prophesized the Spanish conquest of Mexico.
