Alternate history is a broad genre that covers any event in history that could have happened differently. One possible alternated history would be a scenario in which the the South won the American Civil War. Filmmaker Kevin Willmott, a professor at the University of Kansas, made a film called CSA: Confederate States of America dealing with this subject. The author widely considered to be the best in the genre is Harry Turtledove.
