Harry Wellington Laidler was a founding member of the Intercollegiate Socialist Society, was executive director of the League for Industrial Democracy when the I.S.S. changed its name, and was active in the group until 1956[1].

Laidler was also a long-time member of the National Bureau of Economic Research, being mentioned in their very first bulletin[2]. He was a Director with the NBER, and eventually served both as president of the NBER, and later was a member of the board[2].
