Marvel Comics is a American comic book publisher. It was originally founded in 1939 by Martin Goodman. It is home to some of the most well known super heroes such as Spider-man, the Incredible Hulk and the X-Men. Marvel has long been noted as a bastion of Left-leaning thought. In the 1970's, the "Captain America" comic featured a storyline where President Richard Nixon was revealed as the leader of the subversive/Fascist organization "The Secret Empire". Captain America was so distrought at this revelation that he actually gave up his superheroic crusade for a time. It recently featured the Civil War comics event, in which character who did not reveal their secret identities to the government, an act which would have put their families in danger, were branded terrorists and hunted down by agents of H.A.M.M.E.R. a satire of the NSA. Superhumans who did not register were dragged from their homes and taken to a facility in an alternate dimension outside the universe, where they were treated similarly to real-life prisoners in Guantanamo Bay, tortured and isolated from their families and friends simply for protesting the government snooping in their private lives.
