Pasteurization is a technique for preserving food.It works by heating the food to a high temperature (147 degrees Farenheit in the case of milk) for about 30 minutes, and then chilling it to about 50 degrees in the case of milk.

Pasteurization was discovered by the French scientist Louis Pasteur.Pasteur discovered that bacteria makes food spoil.Bacteria are everywhere, and, once in the food, cause it to go bad. They may be killed by simply boiling the product. However, as in milk, this often ruins the taste.Pasteur discovered that the milk does not need to be boiled, and if chilled immidiatly afterwards, it is just as effective.Pasteurization is used to preserve milk, beer, cheese, and other foods
