Michael Alan Weiner, Ph.D. (born March 31, 1942) (aka Michael Savage) is a conservative talk show host. [1]
His nationally-syndicated radio show is called Savage Nation. He holds a Ph.D. in economics and medicinal botany which he received from the University of California, Berkeley[2].
He is famous for making what some characterize as "inflammatory" statements. In 2003, Savage was fired from MSNBC, after telling a homosexual caller "I hope you get AIDS and die, you pig."[3] In August 2007, San Francisco law makers introduced a resolution condemning Savage for "defamatory language ... against immigrants." Some state that the resolution is a result of the cities push for amnesty for illegal immigrants[4].
In 2007, he won the Freedom of Speech award from Talkers Magazine, a [talk radio] trade industry publication. He is currently contemplating running for President in 2008.
Michael Savage & Politics
Savage takes credit for many sweeping changes in American politics. In the early weeks of June, Savage spent almost every minute of his show lambasting George W. Bush's proposed immigration reform bill. He takes credit[5] for the defeat of the bill.
Savage also takes credit for defeating the Dubai port deal.[6]
Michael Savage & Religion
Savage is a deeply religions man. However, he is not a fan of organized religion. In a 2007 broadcast[7], Savage denounced organized religion, and any faith that professes to be the one way to God. He unfavorably compared fundamentalist Christianity and fundamentalism Islam. He also expressed his belief that all religions that teach morality from God are good. As a result, while Savage is a great spokesman for the conservative political viewpoint, he is seemingly not very favorable for Christians listeners.
Michael Savage and GLBT Issues
Savage is an avowed foe to homosexuality. He has referred to gay marriage as "child abuse"[8] and claimed that the "gay and lesbian mafia" wants to "homosexualize the whole country" [9]
Writer
Savage is the author of 18 books including four New York Times Best Sellers: "The Political Zoo", "Liberalism is a Mental Disorder", “The Savage Nation†and “The Enemy Within.â€
