Domesday Book

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Shibboleth (Talk | contribs) at 18:48, June 29, 2007. It may differ significantly from current revision.

The Domesday Book is the record of the great survey ordered by King William I in 1086 to document the people and property of the lands he had conquered twenty years earlier. It was used for legal and taxation purposes until 1522. The correct pronunciation is DOOMSDAY. As such, the validity of the book is called into question by Evangelical Christians who view the book as a trap set by the Antichrist. The Domesday Book is used in this case to claim that there were pagans living in England before the introduction of Christianity.
