Aristide Briand

Aristide Briand (1862-1932) was a French socialist statesman born in Nantes.[1] He served several times as Prime Minister of France during the turbulent period of governments being voted out of office rather quickly by the French populace. Together with Gustav Stresemann, Briand was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 1926 for their work on the Locarno Treaties, which secured the post-World War I borders in Western Europe in exchange for normalizing relations with the new German government. As foreign minister from 1925 to 1932, he co-authored and signed the Kellogg-Briand Pact.
